Portland Floral Workshops

Howdy, partners! We are thrilled to announce that our workshop offerings are now live: shop the options right here! To kick things off, we have released a group of sustainable centerpiece classes, a business mentorship and an exclusive, private 2-day course. The workshops will kick-off when the doors open on our Portland retail storefront (target opening date is the end of December 2019), but pre-sales are live! Now we’ll move on to discussing what is being offered in each of these workshops!!

Centerpiece Class

Centerpieces are one of our favorite facets of floral design and very important to learn to create in a sustainable way. They produce little physical stress compared to bridal bouquets and installation design (holding a bouquet for a long time while designing isn’t always fun, nor is holding your arms up while standing on a ladder), so they enable you to relax AND learn. In this class each student will receive one vase to design in and a selection of blooms chosen by us. We are all about color, so each class will have a different color scheme and we’ll always strive to make the color palette unique and unusual and the overall composition creative and strikingly different to encourage you to think outside of the box and to help expand your portfolio. To start off, when you enter our work space you will, of course, have to grab a beverage, whether its a glass of champagne, some sparkling water or a cup of coffee. We will provide you with your own work station which will be comprised of a tall table (we encourage standing for mobility and a shifting perspective while you design), a “lazy susan” to spin your vase as you design, a bucket of select flowers, clippers, and a small welcome token from Color Theory. The price for a Sustainable Centerpiece Design Course is $250 which covers the cost of a beautifully lush arrangement, a vase and12 years of our experience and knowledge at your fingertips!

As the class progresses we will touch on topics such as - yep you guessed it - color theory, floral composition and movement, balance, color blocking, designing WITHOUT greenery, designing in thirds, and the mechanics behind it all. During class you are welcome to ask us any questions that may come to mind regarding centerpiece design, we are an open book (time permitting!) throughout your time with us.

Business Mentorship

We are excited about all of our currently released workshops as well as those that are forthcoming, but the business mentorship program is what we hold dearest to our hearts. After years spent working for other business owners, feeling undervalued and completely stuck, enough was enough and we took action. At first it was a struggle and, looking back, I would have loved to have a mentor who was a step ahead and confident I would succeed. The act of branching out to start a business has morphed into one giant positive feedback loop of ACTION and in this momentum we have gained a lot of insight into what it takes to build and operate a successful business, how to overcome imposter syndrome, what daily habits garner success, SEO strategy, marketing and advertising, networking, managing finances, website design, brand development and more. It is our pleasure to have a professional space to meet with you, hash out your goals and dreams and push you to take the necessary action to manifest them in reality. During our mentorship meetings you will be able to ask us any questions regarding our strategies and we will share all of the tips and tricks we’ve picked up along the way.

Our 6-Month Business Mentorship - structured as (7) 2-hour meetings - is priced at $1200 (which breaks down to about $85/hour). We also have a 2-Hour Business Mentorship for $300, which breaks down to $150/hr. During these mentorships we will focus on your goals and design actionable micro-goals to help facilitate forward progress. We will design a personal and customized plan of action, whether it be in place to tackle some personal inhibitions that are in your way or to make the most of the business you have already started. We will meet for several hours each month to check-in on your progress and, if necessary, retool our strategies based on where you are at, obstacles encountered, or the progress you have made!

Private 2-Day Floral Intensive

This is the ultimate flower guide immersion course for both brand new designers or designers in training. We will spend two days together, one on one, and I will train you in bouquet design, centerpiece design, and installation design, all with sustainable floral design practices in mind and foam free! Time permitting, we can touch on smaller design items such as boutonnieres, corsages, flower halos, and flower garlands, depending on your interests. If you would like to start on a floral design journey, this is the perfect place to fortify a foundation of knowledge.

This Floral Design Immersion Workshop is $1,800 which covers an immense variety of blooms chosen within a uniquely formulated color palette with the aim of being strikingly distinctive and to help your portfolio stand out from the rest. This cost covers professional photographs of your work to be used in any way that you please. Lastly, we’ll cover your lunch and the floor will be open to discussion on any topic of interest…a bonus mini-mentorship. Question us about insider tips and tricks, we are an open book.
